In low risk women, and if started within 10 years of the menopause or below the age of 60, there are several benefits that HRT may confer in addition to the improvement of menopausal symptoms.
These include a reduced cardiovascular risk (heart disease), improved cognitive function and a reduced risk of osteoporosis (bone thinning).
It is particularly important for women who have an early menopause (before the age of 45) to receive HRT (provided there is not a contraindication), to prevent the increased risks of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, which have been shown to be associated with an early menopause.
The answers to the questions we get asked most commonly can be found on our FAQ page and this is often a good starting point.
